AU Planning Meme - Pre-Game

Welcome to the first AU Workshop for Phantom Thieves International! This post is intended to help incoming players plot their AU and figure out who their characters are in this setting and where they want to go. This is completely optional but players are encouraged to use this post to establish some pre-existing CR and goals for their characters.

CURRENT EVENTS

The following events will be occuring in the setting as the game begins:

-There’s an open casting call for extras for the production of an artsy film by a well-known Hollywood producer.
-Pop superstar Leanna Rapide is playing at the Staples Center. Tickets are almost entirely sold out.
-There has been an uptick in vandalism in Chinatown and Japantown, including anti-Asian graffiti as well as light damages to local independent shops and restaurants.
-Tensions remain high as police continue to conduct drug raids in poorer neighborhoods not seen since the height of the war on drugs.

Madonna was his estranged daughter whose lifestyle he disapproved of and he somehow got custody? Would work if she died in a car crash or something similar, or even some kind of disease since "obviously god was punishing her".

I will go with that, I think! The only remaining question is did he lose custody or just die of being too old, but that can be answered later in a way that provides maximum drama, I think.
